THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE CHOOSING A BLOG NAME

I will assume you already know what your blog is about. It SHOULD be for what you are passionate for, not what others are writing about. If you have passed this stage, now to things you should consider before choosing a name.

  •  What is the blog about?
  •  What is my target audience?
  •  Will I be building my blog around a brand? If YES, what brand? What company?

Coming up with a name totally against the idea of the blog will give a bad impression to your readers and throw them off. They will firstly wonder why you are confused about the name before going to check your blog out.

WAYS ON GETTING AN AWESOME AND UNIQUE BLOG NAME

Now, having passed the stage on the identity of the blog, let’s get into the nitty gritty of getting the unique name. below are carefully stated ways on getting a wonderful and awesome blog name.

1.       GET A THESAURUS!

Surprised? Don’t be. A Thesaurus gives the reader new words. It is a goldmine of inspirations. It gives the user totally new words to work with. No need to keep scratching your head to find new words or inspirations for a blog name.

A very good example is quickly scanning for the word “Tips”, brings up suggestions such as, buzz, hint, inkling, and pointer – all of which sound much more exciting to an ear that’s well-tuned to that more common phrase.

2.       CHECK OUT YOUR COMPETITORS

There’s no crime in doing a study of what others used as their blog names and how they came about it. These helps you on deciding on the type of name to use and why they are using it.

3.       USING A BLOG NAME GENERATOR

These are sites that generates wonderful blog names. They help the user to get good and wonderful word combos for blog names. One of them is Wordoid.com.

The great thing about Wordoid is that not only does it suggest some awesome and unique names, it also tells you whether the .com of that name has been registered by anyone.

4.       USE INSPIRATION GOTTEN FROM YOUR FAVOUIRTE BOOKS AND FILMS

It is not written in any constitution that one must conform to a set of rules when seeking a unique blog name. why not check your favorite books and films? Use words and/or names there to generate a unique name for your blog?

5.       PLAY WITH WORDS

Sometimes, after following all these, the names we chose may have also been taken by someone else. Don’t give up just yet. You can play with the words or use some online tools to aid you on making yours unique.

Such cute and wonderful tools include Step in Panabee. This cute little tool helps you to keep your original idea alive, by providing suggestions that are closely linked to your first choice. It uses the range of methods such as suffixes, phonemes, and prefixes to name a few, in order come up with alternative name suggestions that usually end up being even better.

6.       USE ANOTHER LANGUAGE

Using such tools as Google Translate, you can use any language you want. You can just translate that word to a language of your choice and use it. Example is if you want to use "hellobaby.com" and it has been taken, you can translate “hellobaby” to Spanish and it becomes holabebé.com”. You see? It is totally unique and different.

7.  USE YOUR NAME

This seems like one of the simplest way to get unique. My first blog is Merife Obinna’s Blog. It remains unique, as I am the only one in the world with the name Merife Obinna.

8. USE ABBREVIATIONS
Most notable companies online use abbreviations especially when their brand name is long. This creates an aura of uniqueness to the blog name which only you have.
